I hold his hand.
They don’t teach us about this.
They teach us about duty and purpose and honour and sacrifice and glory. They teach us about friendship and camaraderie and union. They teach us to march and spit and polish and scrub and dig and scrape. They teach us to duck and run and shout and shoot and stab and kill and hate.
They don’t teach us how to watch your best friend die in the rain and the mud and the blood.
